The Furry Side

You may have heard the saying..."A house is not a home without a ____" Fill that in with dog, cat, bird....you name it. For as long as I can remember, I have deeply been an animal lover....always an animal in our home and hearts. It started with the love of a beautiful girl named Susie, who was my Moms dog for 14 years. When she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May 2000, that was the first time I had ever been without an animal. But in September 2000, after some searching for days at our local animal shelter, a border collie mix had caught our eye. Mellow seeming, and so very friendly...he quickly wrapped us around his paws, and tip toed into our hearts. He was named Hunter, our treasured pound pup, and all around couch potatoe. After much persuasion in 2001, (ok, A LOT of begging on my part!) we brought another pup into our home, a little husky mix girl I named Hope. Neurotic, paranoid, but very sweet just about describes our girl. Terrified of her own shadow, and anything smaller than her, she runs from the word "vacuum" and finds joy in barking at the lawn mower.

Then there are the cats. Miss Kitty came home in September 2002, my first cat...oh boy, did I have a lot to learn! She quickly became Queen of the house, and who are we to argue with purrfection? She is our long haired sassy beauty queen, with a loving but crazy streak. The midnight crazies are something to be feared in this house! Next there was Squeak...

My beautiful Squeaky girl, my soulmate cat. She was everything people don't usually expect from a cat, she loved to cuddle, to wait and greet me at the door, and to follow me around like a puppy. The sweetest girl, so full of life.....but unfortunately, her life was not to be full....she had become sick around 8-9 months, and increasingly became worse. A horrible disease...FIP, and after many vet visits,  a lot of tears...and with a broken heart, I let my girl go free.

However there was one special little puppy that came into my life at that rough time....little Bear. Smartest little dog I have ever met, always amazing me with his attentiveness and ever expanding list of known commands. Vivacious, and really full of it he may be, he is extremely sweet to those he knows, and particularly picky about others he meets. If you smell odd, you will get the ferocious dog greeting, or if you smell like a good person....you get the sweeter than a sack of sugar greeting. I trust my dogs judgement, they are far better judges of character than we can even comprehend...so if there is something wrong with ya, Bear will let me know!

Finally, there is little Cleo, or should I say big Cleo. I adopted Cleo after losing Squeak....even with 3 dogs, and another cat this house just seemed way too empty without 20 paws running around. I don't know why exactly that day I had went in to volunteer, and looked over at that moment...but it had to be fate. While Cleo will NEVER be Squeak, they share similarities, which I feel help keep me close to Squeak....yet differences, which help remind me...they are not the same, both are completely unique, with their own special heart and mind, and own special place with me.

For now, this is the Eibeck Fur~Family....however, you never know when it will expand yet again :) Thanks for visiting, have a look around, many tail wags to you! ~~~~~
